of the Doctoral Program |
| The
Ph.D. Program
consists of three stages:
- Preparatory
Stage 1
- Preparatory
Stage 2
- Dissertation
Stage

The Preparatory Stage 1 may be waived, at the Ph.D. Admissions Boardīs
discretion, for excellent Ph.D. candidates. **
Admission to the Ph.D. Preparatory Stage is granted
by individual judgement of the Ph.D. Admissions
Board. |

Requirements
for the Doctoral Degree
The
requirements for the academic degree of Doctor of
Philosophy (Ph.D.) include a completed
dissertation, an oral public defense of
its contents in the English language, and any additional
scientific achievements that constitute part of
the overall research effort (i.e., conference
participation, publications, etc.). The research
conducted must be presented in a manner that it
makes a contribution to the existing body of
scientific knowledge available.

Doctoral
Commencement
Commencement
will include the ceremonial presentation of
the diploma together with the conferring of the
doctoral degree. The diploma will show the date of
the public defense, the dissertation title, and the
overall grade given for the doctoral work completed.

Requirements
to enter the Preparatory Stage 1:
-
An academic degree (Bachelor, Master) in an English language
program conducted at an accredited
institution of higher learning.
- Evidence
of having taken the Graduate Record
Examination (GRE)/ General Test within the
last 3 years. Minimum required score on the
quantitative part is 600 (institutional code
number to appear at the score report: 0637).

Applicants from countries where English is
the official language must provide
appropriate documentation confirming that
their complete secondary schooling together
with any higher educational achievements, if
any, were accomplished using English as the
language of instruction. |

Foreign applicants are not
required to demonstrate any German
language proficiency. A basic knowledge of German,
however, will substantially assist them in
organizing their personal affairs in Magdeburg and
will greatly enhance the enjoyment of their stay in
Germany.

Requirements
to enter the Dissertation Stage:

Applications
for admittance into the dissertation stage
of the doctoral program must be made to the
Dean of the faculty. To be accepted the
applicant must have successfully completed
all classes of the preparatory stage and
must have obtained the approval of two
promoters for a proposed research project.
